After a postponement due to smoky skies as a result of forest fires on the east side of the North Cascades, the 1st Annual Methow Valley Off-Road Duathlon is scheduled to be held on Sunday, October 28th. The race, which starts at 9 AM, will be held at the iconic Sun Mountain resort on the MVSTA trail system, near Winthrop, WA.
The route meanders through aspen and pine forests above Patterson Lake, starting and ending at the Chickadee trailhead in the beautiful Methow Valley.
After a short 1 KM run to the bike staging area, a 40 KM bike route will include sections of the Winthrop Trail, the Black Beat Trail, Fox Loop, Little Wolf Creek Road, Thompson Ridge Road, Pete’s Dragon and the Lower Inside Passage Trail. The running portion covers the Patterson lake Road, Patterson lake Trail, Radar Creek Trail, the Criss-Cross Trail, Yellowjacket Trail and the Rodeo Trail for a total of 10 KM.
Local food available at the event includes fare from East 20 Pizza and post-race microbrews will be furnished by local breweries.
