Jyoti Duwadi: Painting with Earth

I began painting with earth on hand-crafted Nepali paper in 1996. Over time, I collected a rainbow of colors, many from the Pacific Northwest, that define works on canvas, mixed-media sculptures, and site-specific installations. In this series, I rub earth directly into canvas that hangs loosely like a scroll. Turmeric highlights sections of the composition animated by beads, bones, seeds, and stones suspended on thread. By layering different colors, my work reveals Earth’s vibrant beauty. I am fascinated by nature’s geometric patterns. The harmony of these forms inspires my meditative approach to art, which becomes a way of communicating with the viewer.

Since the 1970s, Jyoti Duwadi’s art has fused Eastern and Western traditions to convey the essence of nature. His multifaceted artworks reflect an openness to both chance and discovery. By experimenting with a wide array of materials gathered from around the world, Jyoti reveals the beauty of Earth’s forms and colors.  See more of Jyoti’s work at: https://akash-himal.com/
