Lori Vonderhorst: Precious Stones

I grew up in a house of stone in Northern New Jersey. After moving to Seattle in 1979, the Northwest’s mystic landscape, with its lush forests and stormy tides, immediately drew me in.

In my travels throughout the Northwest, I gather stones, branches, shells, and other artifacts that inspire and inform my work. These artifacts now line my studio shelves and window sills. I study their patterns, textures, and colors; each item reveals a world of its own. Whether drawing, painting, or creating assemblages, each piece of art I create is an intimate visual response to experiences, emotions, and memories.

Lori Vonderhorst was born into a family of graphic and fine artists. After moving to Seattle in 1979, she eventually operated her own graphic design firm, working for public utilities, hospitals, and medical clinics. She retired in 2021 to pursue fine art full-time.
