Stunning Mount Shuksan Sunrise

An Homage to the Cascades

For nearly half my life, the Cascade Mountains have shaped how I see the world. Mount Baker, in particular, called to me the first time I hiked its flanks in 2002. I knew then I needed to live here. That instinct became a life. For 24 years, this region has been both home and muse, offering endless variations of light, weather, and wild presence that continue to amaze and humble me.

The body of work on these pages is an homage to that relationship. It reflects crisp mornings in alpine air, wildflowers dancing below towering peaks, and the deep stillness that these mountains seem to hold.

Now, as our daughter graduates from high school and begins her own path, my wife, iMa, and I are stepping into a new chapter of our own. In nature, birds do not remain in an empty nest. Following that same rhythm, we are transitioning our Bellingham and Leavenworth galleries to an online and social media-only experience and taking flight into an era of full-time travel beginning in Bali, Indonesia, with plans to seek out the most beautiful natural scenery all around the world over time.

This is not a departure; it is an expansion. And we will return to Washington each year to see family and friends, as well as to have more adventures in this breathtaking part of the world. The connection deepens; it does not end.

Known for large-scale wilderness photography, Peter James is a fine art photographer whose metal prints bring presence and depth into interior spaces. His work, now shared fully online and through social media (visit him on Instagram and YouTube), is created in the field and released directly to collectors as he begins a new chapter based in Bali, with a focus on photographing the world’s most biodiverse marine ecosystems. 1. Thank you for sharing your clear love for this spectacular place. Nowadays everything online seems suspect and might be made by a machine and devoid of the human touch. You bring something human to this beautiful pocket of the world. I found your site looking for a hiking book, yours looks wonderful.
